Stine – Copenhagen

Stine rarely plans a ride very far ahead.

Most of the time it starts after work. An hour and a half with Morten or Jens. The Amager loop, the coast, sometimes alone.

There is usually no bigger objective.

She rides because being outside creates distance from everything else.

The bicycle is simply the way out.

The brief was never to build a gravel bike.

It was to build something quiet, capable and easy to live with.

Fast enough when the road opens. Comfortable when it doesn't. Stable on gravel without feeling like a gravel bike everywhere else.

Nothing on it needed to announce itself.

The bicycle should make sense slowly.

Quietness
Stine didn't want a bicycle that constantly reminded her of itself.

That led us towards the Campagnolo Levante - its quieter freehub and understated character suited the way she rides.

Everywhere
The rides around Copenhagen rarely stay on one kind of surface.

40 mm GravelKing Semi-Slicks give enough volume and grip for gravel paths, broken roads and wet winter surfaces, while still feeling quick on asphalt.

One tyre for almost everything, rather than a bicycle built around changing conditions.

Simplicity
A 44T chainring gives Stine the range she actually needs without making the bicycle feel undergeared on the road.

No power meter. Nothing to monitor.

Just one less layer between riding and the reason for going out.

Position
There was no reason to preserve the aggressive position the platform allows.

The bicycle was built around where Stine wants to spend an evening, rather than where a race position says she should sit.

Colour
Slate Grey reveals more as the light changes.

It doesn't explain the bicycle immediately.

That felt appropriate.
